Event Overview

The School Leadership Matters Summit, co-convened by Global School Leaders (GSL) and UNESCO’s Global Education Monitoring (GEM) Report, is a one-of-a-kind virtual convening bringing together school leaders, policymakers, researchers, and education partners from across the Global South. Over the course of three days, participants will explore how empowering school leaders drives meaningful change in teaching, learning, and equity.

Through panels, interactive sessions, and regional spotlights, the summit bridges data and lived experience—amplifying voices from Latin America, Africa, and Asia to shape the global conversation on education leadership.

Because when we invest in school leaders, we strengthen entire systems.

Mapping the School Leadership Ecosystem

This map shows the ecosystem in three layers, highlighting the key challenges at each level and the solutions drawn from summit speakers and case studies.

 How to Use This Map

School Leaders (Inner Circle):
Focus on Pedagogy and People. You cannot fix the national budget, but you can change the culture of trust in your building, observe classrooms, and champion the student's voice.

District/NGOs (Middle Circle):
Focus on Connection and Coaching. Your role is to break the isolation of the school leader by creating networks and shifting your own role from "inspector" to "supporter."

Policymakers (Outer Circle)
Focus on Standardization and Funding. Do not just train leaders; create the career path, salary structure, and professional standards that validate the profession.
