Deep Dive
The Role of School Leaders in Strengthening Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN)

Tuesday, 5 November | 12:15 PM UTC

60 minutes

Format: Deep-Dive Panel Discussion

Foundational Literacy and Numeracy (FLN) remains at the heart of education reform across the Global South. Yet, one critical piece often goes underemphasized - the role of school leaders in driving and sustaining these efforts. Positioned at the intersection of policy and practice, school leaders can translate national priorities into classroom realities.

This session brings together policymakers, practitioners, and researchers to unpack how leadership can strengthen FLN outcomes. Discussion will focus on what effective FLN leadership looks like in action, what support and training leaders need, and how systems can embed leadership into the design and delivery of FLN reforms.

Key Themes:

  • The unique contribution of school leaders to improving foundational learning outcomes.

  • Training, tools, and systemic enablers for effective FLN leadership.

  • Embedding school leadership within national and regional FLN reforms.

  • Lessons from countries successfully integrating leadership into the FLN agenda.

Join us to explore how empowering school leaders can accelerate progress toward foundational learning for all.
