Latin America and the Caribbean School Leadership Hub

A network of organizations collectively strengthening school leadership

in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Research shows that school leadership is one of the most influential and cost-effective factors in improving student learning outcomes. Globally, school leaders play a crucial role in fostering inclusive learning environments and addressing complex school challenges, yet many in Latin America and the Caribbean face significant barriers that hinder their effectiveness. Having witnessed these challenges through our work with partners, we began exploring the idea of a regional hub in 2024 to foster systemic change in school leadership through collective efforts.

Co-designing the Hub

To understand the landscape of school leadership in Latin America, GSL partnered with Centro Lemann in Brazil and five regional organizations—Fundación Coppel and Educando in México, Empresarios por la Educación in Colombia, Enseña Perú in Perú, and the Varkey Foundation in Argentina—to conduct a research study. This initiative included over 20 interviews with school leaders and experts, along with an extensive review of more than 170 documents, identifying key challenges and current policy initiatives shaping school leadership in the region. This working document summarizes some of the research’s findings.

Building on these insights, we conducted codesign sessions and stakeholder consultations to shape the vision, objectives, and structure of the Latin America and the Caribbean School Leadership Hub.

The Latin America and the Caribbean School Leadership Hub (LAC Hub)

The LAC Hub is a collaborative network of organizations committed to elevating school leadership as a key driver of educational quality and equity in Latin America and the Caribbean. By generating resources, research, and strategies, the hub seeks to influence systemic change and professionalize school leadership across the region.

Objectives
  1. Strengthen member organizations by sharing, learning, and acting as a group.

  2. Create and systematize knowledge through research, studies, and evidence.

  3. Generate proposals to guide public policy and amplify the impact of organizations.

  4. Position school leadership as a central issue in the education policy agenda.
