Swarna Surya

Swarna Surya is an engineer turned educator with 12 years of experience working at the intersection of technology, education, social responsibility & government consultancy. She is a technology optimist passionate about making digital solutions accessible in education and nonprofits. Swarna believes technology has the power to transform lives in both groundbreaking and simple ways, serving as an enabler for greater impact.

Since 2020, Swarna has been leading the work on Technology in GSL, applying innovative solutions in resource-constrained contexts. She drives the adoption of emerging technologies, including AI, to optimize operations and expand reach to more beneficiaries while strategically integrating tech solutions to strengthen GSL's mission and long-term goals.

Prior to GSL, as a Consultant with the Educational Management Information System (EMIS) team at the Department of School Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, India, Swarna led initiatives across 35,000+ public schools, including the implementation of a comprehensive Learning Management System and developing solutions for attendance tracking, timetable management, and classroom observation.

Her journey includes teaching Math and Science as a Teach For India Fellow and beginning her career as a Software Engineer at Athenahealth after completing her Bachelor's in Computer Science Engineering from Amrita University.
