Promising Practices
Unpacking Leadership Policies from the Global South

7th November 2024

11:00 - 12:00 PM UTC

Countries follow different paths to achieve their education targets. Having access to comparable information on choices made in different systems can enrich education planners' and decision makers' perspectives on how to overcome their challenges.

The GEM Report’s Profiles Enhancing Education Reviews (PEER) aim to fill this need, covering critical education themes including leadership. A new set of 211 country profiles providing a systematic and comprehensive overview of leadership policies and practices were launched on October 31. The profiles focus on legislation and policies covering roles and standards, professional development and leadership training, as well as policies set for autonomy and appraisal of school leaders.

Led by the GEM Report’s PEER team this session will offer a unique cross-country perspective on school leadership and unpack some of the comparative findings from the new country profiles. The session will engage education policy makers from different regions in discussion on how and why school leadership is now an education policy priority around the world.
